Keep in mind that the discs used to play disc golf are not generally used to play catch, the shape and design generate speed and the edges tend to be rough on the hands when trying to catch them.
The discs used for disc golf tend to be 8 to 9 inches in diameter and weigh 150 to 180 grams. The PDGA has set standards for disc golf discs and one of them is that any disc cannot weigh over 200 grams. Disc golf discs are manufactured and produced by many manufactures. You will find many similar situations for applying the different types of discs for disc golf as you would in the regular game of golf. When selecting a club to use.
Putters
Putter discs are generally smaller in diameter and has a traditional Frisbee shaped and feel. The design of most putters allow it to catch the chains and fall in the basket. They generally have greater dome profile and rounded edges that are thick and blunt. These designs features help prevent overthrowing the basket and as I stated before catching the chains to fall in the basket.
Most serious disc golfers use a putter on a short shot. They may use a driver or midrange to get to the whole but their short game consists of a putter that fits their particular style. Putters come in a variety of plastics. They can be gummy and very flexible disc as well as harder more rigid plastics.
Putters are a great choice for beginners a beginner can get familiar with the smaller disks that are used for disc golf and begin developing their throwing skills.

Midrange
Midrange discs are as the word implies they are often used for the mid range shots. The midrange discs are often the beginners best choice for the disk when starting out. Beginners are often advised to choose a good midrange to develop their skills. Often teeing off with the midrange for beginners will enable them to get close to the basket and use their putter. These disks also come in a variety of plastics and designs. Looking at the flight pattern of each disc is important. It helps you understand how the disc should be flying and how you are doing at developing your skills.
Drivers
Drivers tend to be over stable. It can be hard to control for the novice disc golfer. Drivers are typically more of a discus then a Frisbee. The more skilled disc golfer will use a driver when teeing off on a whole over 250 feet in distance. Drivers can be broken up into a couple different categories also. There are maximum distance drivers and fairway drivers. The maximum distance drivers are generally used by skilled veteran disc golfers. The fairway driver are design to get you closer to the basket and keep you on the fairway.
Again, if you are just starting to play the game of disc golf is advised to get a good quality putter and a good-quality midrange disc.
You options for disc golf discs are great you need to start with a good putter and midrange disc get out to a disc golf course or football field and start throwing them.

Don’t buy the starter set!!Get an Innova Aero in cmophian plastic at about 175 grams. This is a putt and approach disc with lots of glide. It is the original disc golf disc and held the world record for distance at one time at over 400 feet. As your game improves, you will continue to use this disc. For more distance, get a Discraft Glide at about 165 to 170 grams. It is another disc with a lot of glide. It would be considered a fairway driver. Get the premium plastic. Finally, for a beginning driver, try the Innova Roadrunner in Champion plastic at about 160 to 165 grams.Always buy the premium plastic. They cost more, fly better, last way longer than the cheap plastic. The cheap plastic can be ruined after hitting one or two trees.
