Hole 1 Proctor Lake Park

Straight forward shot here but the trees make you stay on your game with a slight upgrade this is a good start for the course. When I arrived at the course I found a local player that was happy to provide information about the course. Brett even offered to play the course and when we play a course for the first time it is always good to do it with someone that knows the course. Bonus local player that knows how to through a disc and is happy to do the round with you!

Hole 2 Proctor Lake Park

Hole 2 at Proctor Lake Park Disc Golf course is open and a pretty straight forward shot. It is a natural fade for a right handed throw. The hole map shows a set of trees that are not there however talking with Brett he did inform me that at one time they were. Fun shot that lets you practice your shots without over thinking it or trying too hard, sometimes that is how we really improve our shooting. Nice easy relaxed shooting that lets us throw.

Hoel 3 Proctor Lake Park

Hole 3 is another open shot that let’s you practice your shot, it is a natural fade for a left hand thrower and a good hole for the right hand thrower to shoot with an over handed throw. I love open shot that allow you to throw and get your shot in you play the disc and let it roll… LOL!

Entrance to Proctor Lake Park Sign

OK Her is the sign for the entrance to the park once you see this keep to the right and you will pass by the lake on the left and a red caboose up a slight incline to a parking area, find your parking spot and find the tee for hole 1. If you get the opportunity to play this disc gold course you will have fun and the course is technical enough to give you the challenge that we all seek in a disc gold course. The Proctor Lake Disc Golf Course is one that will let you throw and really enjoy playing the game of disc golf.  I found the local players to be friendly and open to visitors  and with my traveling schedule I am a visitor to many os the courses that I play at.

The sign for Proctor Lake Park displays that the lake is for public fishing and I personally watched several people fishing. The disc gold course for the city of California, MO is on the other side of the dam for this lake it is open and well groomed and in no way gets close to the lake and it’s activities.

One word of advice my GPS and Droid phone directed me to a different location when I searched for disc golf course. Disc golf has to be 1 of the most cost effective and fun ways to spend some outdoor activity time and to be a little competitive at the same time. You will also get your walking in when you play disc golf.

Disc Golf Discs Online

Disc Golf Discs are designed specifically for the game of Disc Golf. There design and shape are for accuracy, speed and control. The discs used for disc golf are smaller and heavier than the traditional flying discs used for catch and playing games such as ultimate and guts. Keep in mind that the discs used to play disc golf are not generally used to play catch, the shape and design generate speed and the edges tend to be rough on the hands when trying to catch them.

The discs used for disc golf tend to be 8 to 9 inches in diameter and weigh 150 to 180 grams. The PDGA has set standards for disc golf discs and one of them is that any disc cannot weigh over 200 grams. Disc golf discs are manufactured and produced by many manufactures. The discs are typically divided into 3 categories: drivers mid range discs and putters.

It is important during your learning period to throw discs that are within your abilities. It is important to understand the nature of each of these so that you can buy disc golf discs that are best for you. You will find many similar situations for applying the different types of discs for disc golf as you would in the regular game of golf. When selecting a club to use.

Putters

Putter discs are generally smaller in diameter and has a traditional Frisbee shaped and feel. The design of most putters allow it to catch the chains and fall in the basket. They generally have greater dome profile and rounded edges that are thick and blunt. These designs features help prevent overthrowing the basket and as I stated before catching the chains to fall in the basket.

Most serious disc golfers use a putter on a short shot. They may use a driver or midrange to get to the whole but their short game consists of a putter that fits their particular style. Putters come in a variety of plastics. They can be gummy and very flexible disc as well as harder more rigid plastics.

Putters are a great choice for beginners a beginner can get familiar with the smaller disks that are used for disc golf and begin developing their throwing skills.

Midrange

Midrange discs are as the word implies they are often used for the mid range shots. The midrange discs are often the beginners best choice for the disk when starting out. Beginners are often advised to choose a good midrange to develop their skills. Often teeing off with the midrange for beginners will enable them to get close to the basket and use their putter. These disks also come in a variety of plastics and designs. Looking at the flight pattern of each disc is important. It helps you understand how the disc should be flying and how you are doing at developing your skills.

Drivers

Drivers tend to be over stable. It can be hard to control for the novice disc golfer. Drivers are typically more of a discus then a Frisbee. The more skilled disc golfer will use a driver when teeing off on a whole over 250 feet in distance. Drivers can be broken up into a couple different categories also. There are maximum distance drivers and fairway drivers. The maximum distance drivers are generally used by skilled veteran disc golfers. The fairway driver are design to get you closer to the basket and keep you on the fairway.

Again, if you are just starting to play the game of disc golf is advised to get a good quality putter and a good-quality midrange disc.

You options for disc golf discs are great you need to start with a good putter and midrange disc get out to a disc golf course or football field and start throwing them.
